Gatalop Camping & Crash Space

Note: there are no showers in the fort. Showers are available at the nearby Dauphin Island Campground for $3. The shower house is a 1/3 mile walk from the fort gate. Shower tokens are sold at Troll.

Restrooms are located within the fort. As you select your camping site, keep in mind that there is only one entrance to the fort.

Camping

There are several camping areas located in and around the fort. Camping inside the fort walls is strictly limited to period tents. If you would like to reserve a block of space for your group’s period encampment, please contact the landcrat.

Crash Space

Crash space in the Fort is available on a first-come/first-serve basis, with priority to those treaty households with pre-existing contracts with the Barony. Note that access to AC power is extremely limited; if you require power for your medical (e.g. CPAP) device, please contact the Reservation Steward early. You may need a light socket power adapter and extension cord to plug in your device.

Off-Site Lodging

For full-service camping, Dauphin Island Campground is 1/3 mile from the fort and has various options, including full RV hookups.

Pelican Nest Campground & RV Resort is further away (3.4 miles, 8 minute drive), but directly across from the public beach if that’s your thing.

There are two motels/inns on Dauphin Island. The closest to the fort (5 minute drive) is Dauphin Island Harbor House, a B&B-style inn on the north shore of the island. Toward the other end of the island (10 minute drive) is Gulf Breeze Motel. There are also several condominium complexes on the island which offer short-term rentals. Below are several sites where you can find information about renting a condo.

There are a multitude of lodging options in Mobile, AL, including almost every hotel/motel chain you can think of, but they are all a minimum of 45-60 minutes from the fort.
